Dry Skin Saviours - My Post Peel HG Products

Today's post is going to be about the skin care products i reach for when i'm suffering from dry & / flakey skin. Particularly after i have done a chemical peel.

I usually do these every other week & opt for a fruit acid based peel (Salicylic, Mandelic, Glycolic). This results in a light peeling of the top layers of skin that in turn refreshes the texture & is particularly helpful if you've suffered from a breakout and are prone to pigmentation afterwards when your skin is recovering. If you would like more information about what peels i do and their advantages let me know because thats a whole new post altogether..

First up we have 2 products from Bobbi Brown's skincare line:

First up -
Extra Repair Soothing Balm

What it says on the tin
A dense, concentrated balm with exotic plant extracts, such as Avocado, Geranium and Rosemary Oils, can be used anywhere extra hydration is needed  - on lips, cuticles, even heels. EXTRA Soothing Balm can also be applied lightly over makeup to give cheeks that desired, healthy glow. A little goes a long way. Dermatologist-tested.
To use: Use anywhere where extra hydration is needed.

My Verdict:

This little gem is a fantastic multi purpose balm, you can use it pretty much anywhere as the description mentions. I use this on my lips, cuticles & face.

Recently i have been using it overnight all over my face to help with the dryness & flakiness from the peel. Its great for when you have a cold and get a sore flakey nose or itchy irritated skin from various reactions. I also pop it on post breakout to help the the skin heal - especially if i've used a blemish treatment to dry out the breakout.

I pretty much use it exactly as the description suggests, however i do limit my use of it to overnight or on a day off where i can leave it on bare skin. As the consistency is quite thick i've never tried using this under makeup as i cant see my foundation lasting well on top of this.
I use it more like a treatment than anything else. It gives the skin a beautiful luminosity, so i can imagine it would look gorgeous on the cheekbones to give a dewy glow. This application suggestion is probably best suited for those who don't use too much powder on their cheeks or sheer base products.

Next up-
Extra Repair Moisturising Balm

What it says on the tin :
If Bobbi could only have one product, this revolutionary treatment would be it. The super-rich reverse emulsion still feels lush, but now it helps strengthen skin with anti-ageing Extra Repair Complex. Argireline ® Peptide helps boost natural collagen production and Clary Sage Ferment, a botanical ingredient helps improve skin's ability to hold in moisture. An immediate boost of natural hydration comes from proven lipids, including Linoleic Acid, Wheat Bran and Cholesterol. Ideal for nighttime use or during the day when skin is especially dry.
The Proof is in The Mirror. After using Extra Repair Moisturizing Balm for 4 weeks, the majority of women discovered improvement in the appearance of their skin.*

95% reported more moisture in their skin

91% experienced a healthy glow
80% found their skin felt firmer

*Tests were conducted on 100 women in Japan using Extra Repair Moisturizing Balm

Award Winner! Red Beauty Awards 2013.

My Verdict:

I use this for pretty much all the same reasons i used the soothing balm as it has all of the benefits but in cream form. I transition into using this after the majority of the flakiness and dryness subsides from the peel, as in comparison its much more light weight on the skin. I think of the Balm as the treatment and this as a rich moisturiser.

Key benefits:
SPF 25 for daily protection.
Rich but not Heavy.
Great treatment for dehydrated / lack lustre skin conditions. Try it for at least 3 days (ask for a sample) and you will definitely see an improvement in the overall texture and luminosity of your skin.
Great overnight moisturiser even for oily-combination skin types - just use sparingly.

Next Up-
Sanctuary Spa - Time Reversal Face Mask

What it says on the tin:
This Sanctuary Skin Time Reversal Face Mask is an intensive treatment containing vitamin A, E, C and a unique marine complex shown to increase collagen levels.

My Verdict:

I love this face mask. I use this when my skin is feeling a little lack lustre or is dehydrated in the winter months. It helps restore the moisture levels in my skin and leaves it with a lovely glow. On days off ill leave it on all day to get maximum benefits. Vitamin E is another well known ingredient known for helping skin heal and replenish itself.

Lastly we have-
Boots Botanics Facial Oil

What it says on the tin:
This aromatic oil melts into lacklustre skin to lock in moisture for 8 hours while softening, conditioning and helping to restore its natural glow.
Use regularly to boost the performance of your daily skincare regime.
Rosehip is nature's nourishing gem. The seeds are a rich source essential Omega oils, which help to improve suppleness and keep all skin types beautifully soft and healthy looking.
Our beauty scientists use active plant extracts approved by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, to bring you beautiful skincare that's proven to work.
We've taken steps to reduce our impact on the planet at every stage in this product's journey.
Formulated without parabens.

My Verdict:
This is a firm favourite of mine, i use this every night before moisturiser or in place of it. The ingredients list is full of a host of beneficial natural ,organic oils in particular rose hip which is fantastic at helping the skin heal. Its great on any scarring, but like the balm, i use this mostly post breakout to help with any pigmentation scars and to help with the flakiness from the peels i do. This would go on before the balm or moisturiser in my routine. Despite it being an oil its a fantastic addition to anyones skincare routine, you don't have to have dry skin to use an oil in your routine, I have used this both morning & evening as it absorbs pretty quickly so i haven't found it interferes with the wear of my foundation. It also helps take the matte edge off certain foundations if you want to add a touch of luminosity to the skin.

and that sums it up! i hope you've enjoyed reading the post and if you've used any of these products before id love to hear your experiences with them!
